HIT Tips: Target Practice

Here are a few things you can practice with a friend or family member. This post really deals with attempted abductions from behind. If a perpetrator tries to grab you from behind, first and foremost, you want to set your weight - make yourself as heavy as possible for them to pick up. Secondly, you want to target seek. Remember: closest weapon, closest target. If the perpetrator grabs you around the waist (underneath the arms) use your elbows and strike backwards to the face (swing your left elbow then swing your right elbow and then … Continue Reading

HIT Alert: Second Rape on College Campus

According to Fox news, there was another rape reported at UCSD last week (I believe the actual attack occurred on 2/3/09 around 8:30pm). This was the second reported rape in the last (4) months. Apparently, the victim was forced to the ground by the perpetrator in a parking lot and sexually assaulted. I thought this was a good time to put up some tips on parking garages/walking to your car, etc. Remember: this is a perfect environment for a predator - these areas are usually dimly lit with a lot of places to hide. A … Continue Reading

HIT Clip: Reduce Your Risk of Date Rape

I actually meant to post this clip from the DVD a few weeks back when I posted: HIT Tips: 27% Increase in Rape. This clip really follows my suggestions on how to reduce your risk of ‘Date Rape’ (Acquaintance Rape). I saw a program a few weeks back about a young woman who was raped after being drugged on Spring Break. She found out about the rape after police showed up on her doorstep a few years later with a video and showed her the assault that apparently the perpetrator recorded. According to the program, the … Continue Reading

HIT Clip: How to Escape a Choke Hold

As promised, here is a quick clip from the HIT DVD. This is a strategy to use if someone tries to attack you from behind. Let me stress this, again: this is just one of the techniques we show you in the DVD. You need to watch and practice all of the strategies and techniques in order to prepare yourself for any number of different attacks. Also, make sure you practice this escape with someone. I always say ‘repetition is the mother of all learning’; so you need to practice this technique until it becomes instinctive. You do not want … Continue Reading

HIT Tips: 27% Increase in Rape

Recently, I caught a quick news clip on the radio about the decrease in overall crime rates in San Diego, CA - but an increase in rape (up 27%). Reported rapes went from 296 incidents in 2007 to 376 in 2008. NPR Radio News: SD Crime Statistics The SDPD attributed this increase to more victims who came forward to report the crime (specifically: Acquaintance/Date Rape). These increases are consistent with national trends that show a 25% increase in sexual assaults since 2005 - while overall violent crime is down slightly over the same period (Bureau of Justice Statistics … Continue Reading

HIT Clip: Fox News/Supplement to ‘Children’ Blog

Here is a story that Fox News ran about me a year or so back. I thought this was pertinent with the previous blog I posted on child abduction (re:HIT Tips: Children). The clip visually matches my suggestions for your children if someone tries to abduct them (you can see some of our training strategies in action). I believe the first part of the segment was shot HD (squished) - the actual story was shot standard definition and looks normal. Again, be prepared for potential Youtube artifacts and load delays. Enjoy the clip - I … Continue Reading
