Here is an excerpt from the HIT DVD. This clip deals with property crime. Just a quick note: if you’re confronted by someone who wants your purse - or something on your person, give them the property. Like a game of hot potato, get that item away from you. In the clip, I mention to throw the property in the opposite direction. That may give you a second or two to start running the other way while the perpetrator goes after the item. This may also give you a few beats to escape in case they have the alternate motive of abduction or sexual assault (personal crime). As always, as soon as you throw that item away from you and begin running in the opposite direction, start yelling! These are consequences they do not want - you want to attract enough attention so the perpetrator retrieves the item of interest and flees.
No physical item is worth your safety or your life. I know sometimes heirlooms or sentimental items can be tough to part with, but remember: if they want that item bad enough, you’re going to get physically assaulted until they get the item.
I hope this helps.
Stay safe.
