Here are a few things you can practice with a friend or family member. This post really deals with attempted abductions from behind. If a perpetrator tries to grab you from behind, first and foremost, you want to set your weight - make yourself as heavy as possible for them to pick up. Secondly, you want to target seek. Remember: closest weapon, closest target. If the perpetrator grabs you around the waist (underneath the arms) use your elbows and strike backwards to the face (swing your left elbow then swing your right elbow and then back to the left elbow, etc.) until he lets go (take a look at the third demo/underneath the red party cup - we did an in-studio demo at a local T.V. station that shows this technique pretty well). If the perpetrator tries to grab you from behind and comes over the arms (or pins your arms down) - go for the marbles. You can hammer down to the groin with your fist or reach down and grab at the groin. Another technique you can use in this scenario is to ‘rake’ the shin with your foot. When I say ‘rake’ I mean take the outside part of the foot and strike down on the shin - aggressively. As soon as he lets go - separate and create that safe distance (8-10ft) - yell - and look for your areas of escape. Again, these are ‘consequences’ that will make you an undesirable target to the perpetrator.
Try this at home - have someone come up from behind and try to abduct you - utilize the techniques I mention above (with the groin strike/grab - you can always reach to the inseam of the thigh so you don’t disable a friend of loved one and make them gun shy about your future training sessions). Have your training partner grab you from behind and pin your arms down, as well as, grab you from behind and come up underneath the arms and around the waist. Run through the scenario and have your training partner react appropriately when you pretend to strike them in the face or the groin, etc.
With a little practice, you’ll be ready if this ever happens in real life.
